I left Bend Oregon bright and early Monday the 21st of May, my first stop was Renton Washington. I had arranged to pick up a friend there who was going to travel with me. Unfortunately, my friend that morning realized his passport was expired so the trip became a solo adventure. I also stopped in Redmond because in the past I worked for Northwest seaplanes and they travel to Canada every day so I set up my computer and went to work. I realized that I needed to get a DTOPS decal so I quickly went online and bought one and printed out the receipt and the called US Customs to make sure I could get back into the U.S. with a receipt which they said I could do but this still remains to be seen. Having had already got my EAPIS log in and password I set to work filling this out, no easy thing even if you have help. Then I called Canadian Customs in Abbotsford so they knew I was coming. I then filed a flight plan and I was off. In 45 Minutes I was in Abbotsford where I cleared customs on the phone ( I love Canada ). I filed a flight plan for Fort Grahame and off I went. Great weather I climbed to 10,000 went straight over the mountains and made it all the way to Mackenzie. Great place for fuel. The lady at the fuel shack made me a Tuna sandwich and an ice cream, first things I had eaten all day. In 40 minutes half way up to Williston Lake I was at Fort Grahame. Great place to stop, they have beds and will make you a meal to. The next morning I used their phone to file to Whitehorse and off I went. I stopped at Watson Lake for fuel and made Whitehorse in no time. The weather was still good with partly cloudy skies and little showers. When I stopped in Whitehorse I met a Cub driver who was going to Northway to clear customs so I thought I would do the same. So we called Customs in Northway gave our arrival times and information and that was that. The Cub driver took off and I quickly ran into the terminal did my EAPIS filed a flight plan and took off for Northway. About halfway there I was flying along and for some reason, I was monitoring the flight service frequency and they called me. Flight service informed me that Northway had called them to tell me that I could not clear in Northway because they only cleared from 9 to 3 and you had to give them 2 hours notice and by no means land in Northway and if you do you will be fined or worse, so I laned in Beaver Creek. It was not long after that when I heard fight service looking for the Cub to tell him the same thing, never did see the Cub. So here I sit in Beaver Creek waiting for 7 am to come so I can call Northway and tell them I will be there at 9 and with a fuel stop in Tok I should be in Anchorage by noon.
