Landed at home after the last leg from Carson Nevada, it was nice to see the mountains of home and the look of relief in my wife’s eyes. It was just as long as my flight last summer to Anchorage and in some ways more desolate even crossing Mississippi and Louisiana at 2000 feet there was a lot of country that was no mans land, and not much between Hobbs New Mexico and Albuquerque. I love looking out the window, like a dog with the window open. My dad had a good time following my Fore Flight and watching the world go by trying to figure out where we were, at 88 kind of had to shoe horn him in the plane and never really did a leg longer that 3 hours. Flying from Grand Canyon east to Las Vegas was another place that would be a long walk out but we tend to forget that stuff as we fly and look at the natural wonders rolling by under our wings. All in all it was a good trip and spending the time with my old man was well worth it, it is because of him i am doing what I do. I burned some where around 12 GPH, oil consumption was little to none, (I did not add a quart, but the plane needs some TLC. My plan is to fix the things that bother me, radios, seats, give it a good annual fly this summer and then take the wings off, take the tail off, set it in my cradle and replace the panel, retire and clean up the FWF, maybe add the P Ponk engine but until then the views of the flight still play like a slide show in my mind.
