Cylinders on the Champ
I am healing up but in the time I am out of the shop things still go on…..
Max and I decided to leave the bottom end of the O-235 alone and just put new cylinders on the Champ. These cylinders came with the Champ when we bought it and for good reason. You always end up educating yourself when you go down the rabbit hole, one thing we learned is that all O235’s are not the same and things change to engine design as time goes on. One thing we found with the O235 is that Lycoming went from a 4 ring low compression piston, which we had, to a 3 ring piston 8.5 compression piston, then from a aluminum push rod to steel, (the steel pushrods are shorter) then we up graded the carburetor..not to mention Max port and polished the cylinders….changed the timing to 20 degrees and maybe we might get 118 HP, up from a 100. I have found with airplanes there is nothing time and money can’t fix… I just have to remind myself I am in this business to make money…Oh and the other soon to be mechanic is Danny O…..
